Weight Loss

Hillary Jewell, NP now offers Semaglutide injections with B12 for medical weight loss in Eugene, OR. Her “Boutique Weight Loss” approach at Jewell Aesthetic Med Spa promises personalized care and attention, ensuring you feel confident, empowered, and heard throughout your weight loss journey. Hillary has extensive knowledge of how to manage side effects of the medication and plateaus in weight loss.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide (Wegovy) helps with weight loss and regulates blood sugar by mimicking a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies, known as a GLP-1 analog. It works by boosting insulin production, decreasing glucagon secretion, and targeting areas in the brain responsible for regulating appetite and food intake. A small change in the molecule enables the drug to persist for weeks, compared to the body’s version which lasts minutes.

Semaglutide works by:

  • Slowing stomach digestion, promoting fullness and satisfaction with smaller meals.
  • Extending post-meal fullness by reducing intestinal motility.
  • Lowering blood sugar levels, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
  • Stimulating insulin secretion from the pancreas.
  • Reducing inflammation throughout the body, fostering Adiponectin release and fat breakdown.

Is Medical Weight Loss Right for You?

Hillary knows everyone’s weight loss journey is unique and tailors a plan specific to your needs and goals. Every treatment plan begins with an in-depth consultation consisting of a thorough health exam, medical history review, and lab review to confirm your eligibility for the medical weight loss program.

Individuals who are overweight or obese and struggling to lose weight are good candidates for Semaglutide therapy. This medical weight loss program promotes healthy weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week (on average) and will help you maintain results by losing weight slowly and steadily.

The benefits include:

  • Decreased appetite and cravings
  • Weight loss one to two pounds a week on average
  • Improved blood glucose control

Semaglutide/B12 Dosing

Jewell Aesthetic Med Spa recommends using variable dose vials to achieve the lowest effective dose, even if it deviates from the dosing schedule. This helps to limit side effects and improves adherence.

Side Effects & Contraindications

The most common side effects include nausea and constipation. Patients also report acid reflux, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, all of which can usually be managed. The risk of serious side effects increases in patients with hypoglycemia, kidney problems, and risk of allergic reactions.

This medication is not insulin and should not be used if you have type 1 diabetes or if you develop diabetic ketoacidosis. Semaglutide should not be used with any other GLP-1 medications. If you or any family members have been diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 or Medullary thyroid cancer, you should not take Semaglutide. If you have previously been diagnosed with pancreatitis, please consult with your provider.

Other Medical Weight Loss Options

Jewell Aesthetic Med Spa offers Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) as an alternative medical weight loss injection to Semaglutide. Tirzepatide is a once-weekly dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. It works by mimicking the actions of incretin hormones GIP and GPL-1, which help regulate blood sugar levels. By targeting both receptors, Tirzepatide aims to provide better glycemic control and potentially promote more weight loss.

Tirzepatide is typically more expensive but may have less side effects and potentially result in faster weight loss. In your consultation with Hillary Jewell, NP, she will go over all of your options for you to choose which weight loss program is right for you.
